Quality Silver Necklaces

Silver chain necklaces come in a huge range of styles, widths and lengths. But not all silver necklaces are equal.

925 sterling silver is an alloy of 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper and is the most common alloy used in quality jewellery. Pure silver is too soft for necklaces and bracelets, so the copper is added to increase the strength of the silver. Sterling silver chain jewellery is made to last for a life time of constant wear.

Silver plated chains are a cheap base metal, often brass and copper are used, and silver is electroplated onto the cheaper metal. These necklaces and bracelets look great when they are new, but a few months of every day wear will see the plating wear away and the base metal becomes apparent.

If you intend wearing your silver necklace every day then only a quality solid sterling silver necklace will look as good in 20 years as it does today.
